Getting to Know The Artists
A Husband and Wife Team:
Oscar Abarca Casasola and Lucia Lopez Dellez
We recently made their acquaintance as we have met the other artists --- on the streets of San José. Exhibiting incredible detail in miniature, they use no maginification while producing their feather paintings. They have experimented with all sorts of feathers, and a favorite of theirs and ours is the feather of the guinea hen with its black and white spots. You will see them illustrated in some of the scanned images indicated below.
Go to Oscar's Feather PaintingsOscar is orginally from Cartago, Costa Rica, and Lucia came from Masya, Nicaragua. In 1992, at age 40, Oscar began studying the art of feather painting and working with acrylics. He took a course, discovered that he had talent, and proceeded to market his work. In 1994, he began selling in a kiosk among the other artisans in downtown San José.
Go to Lucia's Feather Paintings
In 1995, at age 28, Lucia began working with Oscar, learning from his experience and training, and developing her own unique style which you will soon recognize after examining her feather paintings.
The only problem with this business is that we can't keep all their beautiful work ourselves.
